Add it to Canvas
Once CodeFlip is set up for your school, teachers add programs to modules, assignments and pages, and students open them right inside Canvas.
Set it up once (Canvas admin)
This needs a Canvas admin, usually someone in your school's IT or learning technology team. Send them this page.
- In Canvas, go to Admin → Developer Keys, press + Developer Key, and choose + LTI Registration.
- Enter
https://codeflip.dev/v1/lti/register. Canvas shows CodeFlip's settings to review. Save, and Canvas turns the key on. - Copy the new key's Client ID, the number under Details.
- Go to Admin → Settings → Apps → View App Configurations → + App. Choose By Client ID, paste the ID, and install.
CodeFlip is set up as anonymous: Canvas doesn't send it students' names, emails or rosters.
Moodle and Brightspace accept the same registration address. In Moodle, it goes under Site administration → Plugins → Activity modules → External tool → Manage tools → Tool URL.
Add a program (teacher)
- In CodeFlip, open the program on the step you want students to start from, press Share, and copy the link.
- In Canvas, choose where it goes:
- a module: + → External Tool → CodeFlip;
- an assignment: set Submission type to External Tool and choose CodeFlip;
- a page: open the editor's Apps menu and choose CodeFlip.
- Paste the link, give it a title, check the preview, and press Add to course.
Instead of a link, you can paste embed code or a Python Tutor link, or pick one of CodeFlip's examples from the list.
To change the program later, edit the item in Canvas and choose again.
What students see
Students open the item and step through the program inside Canvas, on the step you chose. They don't sign in to CodeFlip.
Grades
CodeFlip doesn't send grades back to Canvas yet, so use it in assignments students explore rather than ones you mark.
